May 2, 2002 (Holland, MI) The Holland Group, Inc. announces the PowerLeg™ 20K Series – a totally-integrated, electric-powered landing gear system for expedited freight, straight truck, gooseneck trailers, specialty trailer and pickup & delivery (P&D) applications.
“People who use straight trucks for expedited freight and other P&D applications have asked for a quicker, safer, more efficient and cost-effective way to stabilize their vehicles during the loading/unloading process as well as reducing the potential for driver fatigue and/or injury,” says John Cook, Product Manager, Holland Landing Gear Products.
To meet those needs, Holland has partnered with Quest Transportation Products, Inc. – manufacturers of patented, electronic power systems for transportation applications – to develop the Holland PowerLeg 20K Powered Landing Gear System.
“Holland landing gear have always been designed for cost efficient, reliable performance in specific conditions and applications,” adds Cook. “Our PowerLeg technology is the latest example of that strategy. Our partnership with Quest Transportation offers the ‘best of both worlds’ – Holland’s proven landing gear technology and Quest’s proven efficient, electronic power technology.”
PowerLeg System advantages.
The Holland PowerLeg 20K System is powered directly through the landing gear’s transmission and provides all the torque necessary for quick, easy operation to improve driver productivity. What follows explains how
Easy Operation. A simple push of a button raises or lowers a load up to 20,000 lbs.— at exceptional speed. This reduces driver fatigue and potential workers compensation costs.
An in-cab control option protects drivers from bad weather and assures easy operation in tight loading dock situations where space is often cramped.
Exceptional Speed. PowerLeg technology provides quick speed to the ground and back at 1” travel every 3 seconds. The PowerLeg System can raise or lower a vehicle in about 4.5 times faster than manually crank a landing gear.
A driver who raises/lowers the landing gear once a day, will save 6 minutes a day, a half hour a week, 2 hours a month and over 100 hours a year!
Improved Truck Stability. The PowerLeg System easily adjusts to varying dock heights. Holland’s floating riser nut reduces dock walk and insures easy travel – especially on uneven terrain. And a removable cushion foot absorbs significantly more load shock.
Together, these unique features stabilize loading dock-to-vehicle operation, prevent “sinking” (dock walk) due to heavy fork lifts and reduce the potential damage to the vehicle’s body and load.
Easy Installation. Installation of the power supply from the vehicle’s 12-volt battery to the landing gear is easy and fast. All system components (control box, wiring harness, attachments, landing gear and back-up manual crank) are supplied. And, a variety of optional mounting styles are available for specific application requirements.
Superior Durability. The Quest performance-proven, electric power system and Holland landing gear leg offer low maintenance, reliable, long-lasting service life.
The PowerLeg System is precisely lubricated for high speeds, with protection from –65° to 250° F. Holland’s 80,000 psi high-strength steel provides 140,000 lbs. static load and 27,000 lbs. side load ratings extending useful service life. And, Holland’s wrap-around leg cover prevents water penetration and improves durability.
Available Options. Customers can specify several significant options:
* The Holland NoLube™ sealed landing gear system that provides maximum lubrication for life of the product—without any need for additional grease.
* The Quest sealed control box with space for a 12-volt battery for stand alone power.
* In cab controls that operate the landing gear without the driver leaving the cab.
5 year Warranty. Unlike the 1-3 year limited warranty for competitive systems, Holland offers a comprehensive, full 5-year parts and labor warranty.
PowerLeg technology ends problems caused by conventional hydraulic systems.
“The PowerLeg System ‘raises the bar’ on powered landing gear technology and offers distinctive operating, maintenance and cost advantages over conventional electric-over-hydraulic and air-over-hydraulic systems for a variety of P&D applications,” says Lee Owen, VP Sales & Marketing, Quest Transportation Products, Inc. Specifically:
Easier installation. Installing conventional hydraulic systems is complicated, difficult, time-consuming and costly. Installing the PowerLeg landing gear is easy and takes significantly less time than any hydraulic system.
Leaks and potential load damage are eliminated. High-pressure systems require many valves, cylinders, hoses, lines and fittings that can create potential leaking problems, high aintenance requirements and dropped loads due to normal wear and vibration. The PowerLeg System doesn’t use any of those components. That saves money on maintenance time, labor, maximizes uptime and reduces potential vehicle and load damage.
Manual cranking option. Hydraulic systems don’t permit manual cranking (raising or lowering). The PowerLeg System can be manually cranked in an emergency.
5 year warranty. Hydraulic systems are traditionally warranted for 1-3 years. Holland provides a full, comprehensive 5-year warranty on performance, parts and labor which indicates Holland and Quest’s confidence in reliable, worry-free performance.
